Funding and Publications

Funding

The design, construction, and operation of GeoSoilEnviroCARS have been funded since 1994 by grants to the University of Chicago from National Science Foundation – Earth Sciences (EAR) and Department of Energy – Geosciences. The current five-year grants run from 2011-2016. In addition, a major upgrade of the sector to canted undulator operations was supported (2009-2011) by three agencies (equally divided): NASA-SRLIDAP (now LARS), NSF-EAR-IF (ARRA) and DOE-Single Investigator Small Group (SISGR). The associated accelerator components (undulators, canted front end) for the upgrade were provided by the Advanced Photon Source using DOE-ARRA funding.

Publication Acknowledgements

When work is conducted at GSECARS Sector 13, APS, and is published in journals, books, conference proceedings, or other printed technical media, the following acknowledgment statement should be included in the manuscript:

This includes use of the GSECARS / COMPRES gas loading system, GSECARS Raman Lab System and GSEACRS SEM System.

[Portions of this work were] / [This work was] performed at GeoSoilEnviroCARS (The University of Chicago, Sector 13), Advanced Photon Source (APS), Argonne National Laboratory. GeoSoilEnviroCARS is supported by the National Science Foundation – Earth Sciences (EAR – 1634415). This research used resources of the Advanced Photon Source, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science User Facility operated for the DOE Office of Science by Argonne National Laboratory under Contract No. DE-AC02-06CH11357.

If you used the GSECARS / COMPRES gas loading system, please use the following acknowledgement:

Use of the COMPRES-GSECARS gas loading system was supported by COMPRES under NSF Cooperative Agreement EAR -1606856 and by GSECARS through NSF grant EAR-1634415 and DOE grant DE-FG02-94ER14466. This research used resources of the Advanced Photon Source, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science User Facility operated for the DOE Office of Science by Argonne National Laboratory under Contract No. DE-AC02-06CH11357.

If you used the GSECARS Raman Lab System, please use the following acknowledgement:

Use of the GSECARS Raman Lab System was supported by the NSF MRI Proposal (EAR-1531583).

If you used the GSECARS SEM System, please use the following acknowledgement:

Use of the GSECARS SEM System was supported by the NSF MRI Proposal (EAR-1531583).
