Each CARS sector offers public IP addresses (164.54.16x.xxx) and private IP addresses (10.54.16x.xxx).

- A public IP can talk to other CARS devices on the local subnets, and also has access to the internet.

- A private IP can talk to other CARS devices on the local subnets, but DOES NOT have access to the internet.

IMPORTANT:  In order to reserve a DHCP IP address for your device, I will need the device MAC address.  Many manufacturers print the MAC address on a small label, usually on the bottom of the device.  It is a 12 digit hexadecimal, usually in the format AA:BB:1A:2B:CC:33 or aabb1a2bcc33.

If you are unable to determine the devices MAC address, I will still be able to block off an IP address which you can use to statically assign to the device.

NOTE: If you are unable to determine the MAC address, please contact Charlie Smith (csmith@cars.uchicago.edu) or your designated beamline scientist for assistance.

IMPORTANT: In order to accurately find your device in DHCP, I will need either the currently assigned DHCP IP address or the MAC address.  Many manufacturers print the MAC address on a small label, usually on the bottom of the device.  It is a 12 digit hexadecimal, usually in the format AA:BB:1A:2B:CC:33 or aabb1a2bcc33.

NOTE: If you are unable to determine either the IP address or the MAC address, please contact Charlie Smith (csmith@cars.uchicago.edu).
