Before your arrival to Argonne

Argonne National Laboratory is multidisciplinary science and engineering research center. The facility is located in Lemont, Illinois, outside of Chicago, and is the largest national laboratory by size and scope in the Midwest. Read more about ANL here.

If you require an official invitation letter to the workshop for VISA applications or other administrative purposes, please e-mail your request to stellachariton@uchicago.edu.

Please note that for Argonne site access, you MUST have one of the following:

  • a valid Argonne employee badge
  • a valid/current APS user badge
  • a pre-approved gate pass for site access arranged through this meeting registration.

Registration alone does not grant site access.

For non-US citizens without a current/valid badge: You MUST complete the Argonne Non-US Visitor Registration form. Please indicate “IUCr High Pressure Workshop” as the purpose of your visit. To ensure your access to the Laboratory, complete this form as soon as possible (minimum of two weeks before the meeting).

Travel to Argonne

Argonne is located within 25 miles of two major Chicago airports: O’Hare International and Midway. Learn more on the ways of transportation to Argonne here. In general, limousine transportation to Argonne, such as A-1 Limousine, from the airports is less expensive than a taxi or car rental.

Please note that car lift services, such as Uber, Lyft etc. are not generally allowed to enter the Argonne site. In this case, you could make use of the shuttle service upon arrival to the North Gate entrance of the Lab to the Guest House, which runs from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Accommodation

We reserved blocks of rooms for the workshop participants at the Argonne Guest House. The Guest House is conviniently located within the Argonne site and is two minutes walking distance from the conference hall.

You can reserve a room here. Under “Group Name” please indicate “Advanced High Pressure Crystallography”.

All prices are discounted for workshop participants and are as follows:

  • Signle room: $99/night
  • Double room: $109/night
  • 4-Bedroom Suite: $396/night

All attendees have until November 21st to be guaranteed a room and this rate.
